With the city bus directly into the sunset: The Gaisbergspitze
Most tourists only know the small city mountains, the locals drive on their real house mountain, the 1,287 meter high Gaisberg. The great thing: you don’t have to hike, because the city bus line 151 runs from Mirabellplatz directly to the viewing platform on the summit plateau. Above you have an unrestricted 360 degree view over the entire Alpine foreland and the Berchtesgaden Alps. On warm evenings, half of Salzburg sits with a blanket in the grass and watches as the sun sinks behind the summits.
Insider tip: Directly next to the inn, the paragliders start in good wind. Stand at the bounce edge of the west launch pad and watch the paragliders glide silently over the fortress.
